Funktion Design Studio was enlisted by the Iron County Highway Department to address the pressing need for a replacement of their outdated highway shop, which lacked adequate space for equipment, crew amenities, and storage. We undertook the responsibility of providing comprehensive design, bidding, and construction services for a new 15,000 square foot vehicle storage and crew support facility. The design prioritized functionality and durability, with the facility constructed using a combination of exterior metal wall panels with concrete wall bases, interior CMU wall systems, and concrete floors. A PEMB (Pre-Engineered Metal Building) structural steel rigid frame system was employed, complemented by roof beams, purlins, and frame components, along with a robust metal roofing system. The facility encompasses 12,000 square feet of heated vehicle storage, along with dedicated areas for brine production, a vehicle wash bay, separate entry, toilet and changing room, and an office/crew room complete with a training/break area. Furthermore, our design plans incorporated site grading, stormwater mitigation systems, and erosion control measures, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the facility's functionality and environmental impact.
